THE FIRST SHOW OF MUSE IN MOSCOW. NEW MUSICAL EXPRESS IN RUSSIA 2001

Several important events took place at the Luzhniki Sports Palace (capacity 10000) in Moscow on September 22, 2001. The first one was the presentation of the first issue of the Russian edition of the authoritative British magazine, New Musical Express. The second was the concert of the young British band, MUSE, which was gaining popularity. The band performed in Russia for the first time. The organizer of the concert was the JSA Promoter team.

NME has the status of a magazine for thinking music lovers and is one of the most influential music publications in the world. According to the words of the editor-in-chief of the Russian version, Ruslan Shebukov, the arrival of NME should help establish the best quality of music journalism in the country.

Muse came to Moscow exclusively for the presentation of the Russian version of New Musical Express. The special booking of the rising rock stars was made by JSA Promoter.

The visit of the British rock trio as an event headliner gained great interest from the media. The artists arrived the day before the show, and the JSA Promoter team held a big press conference for Muse at the fashionable Moscow Club B-2. There were many journalists from the press, radio, and TV, which was pleasant for the musicians.

The concert of the presentation NME in Moscow was opened by the Russian band Smyslovye Gallyutsinatsii (Semantic Hallucinations), followed by performances from Nike Borzov, Night Snipers, and Total. After a short break, MUSE, the main guest of the event, appeared on stage. For an hour and a half, the British band rained down on the audience an avalanche of bewitching sound. The leader of the group, Matt Bellamy, demonstrated his virtuosity on the keys and guitar while spinning around the stage like a top.

The show was very successful – that day was the start of the MUSE promotion among Russian rock fans. After energetic action on stage, the musicians went to a special after-party at the B-2 club to celebrate their first performance in Moscow.

Thus, in September 2001, three things happened at the same time:
– the JSA Promoter team made a great concert event and received much gratitude from MUSE.
– The first issue of the Russian version of the magazine New Musical Express was published (there was an image of the leader of the popular Ukrainian band Okean Elzy on the cover).
– In the UK, the September issue of the magazine NME was published with a photo of MUSE on the cover.

JSA company also installed the stage platform for this event and made the special design of the back wall (concept by Alexander Strizhak). It was set up from Layher Allround elements and had the form of three letters NME, as the main logo of the magazine New Musical Express.
