From July 1 to July 3, 2005, the capital of the Kaliningrad Region and former East Prussia celebrated its 750th anniversary on a grand scale. On this occasion, events, including official and entertainment programs, orchestra performances and concerts, were held in 20 locations on the city’s street stages and in the surrounding areas. The organizer of the preparation and holding of the anniversary, the “Interregional Press Center”, invited the JSA company as a partner in the construction of all the main stage areas for ceremonial and mass events in the city.
The three-day celebrations took place on stage structures installed by JSA: the main concert stage measuring 20 m x 12 m on the square near the House of Soviets, assembled from elements of the Layher systems, with the use of the Layher Cassette Roof; two small stages with Prolyte MRT roofs measuring 10 m x 12 m – at the ROSTO airfield (Devau) for the stunt rock bike show “Baltic Assault” and a stage on the square near the Rossiya cinema and concert hall in the city center; a special stage platform for the large water festival “Raise the Sails!” in the waters of the Pregolya River near the “Sailors of the Baltic” stele; a stage for a children’s party on the territory of the Kaliningrad Central Park of Culture and Leisure; a stage for the “Laying Flowers at the Memorial to 1200 Guardsmen” event; and a stage podium at the main architectural symbol of the city – the recently restored Royal Gate of Königsberg.
All stage areas were fenced: along the stage front with crowd safety barriers and temporary fences in the backstage area. All equipment and structures were specially delivered by trucks from Moscow from the JSA warehouse.
In addition, JSA, as the official partner for the sale and promotion of products of the German plant Layher in Russia, supplied a special set of Layher grandstands for 400 seats with a roof of the Keder system. The grandstand was installed on the embankment of the Pregolya River for important guests who arrived for the city’s celebrations.
More than 300 official guests were invited to the celebration, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, who met with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and French President Jacques Chirac during these days. The anniversary celebration consisted of three conventional parts: July 1 was a historical day with the theme – “One city – one history”, July 2 was held under the slogan – “Russian city in the center of Europe”, and July 3 became European day – “Kaliningrad – the meeting place of Russia and Europe”. Hot air balloons flew over the city all three days.
At the ROST airfield (Devau), the JSA stage featured the bands Spleen, Korol i Shut, Krematoriy, Nochnye Snaipery and Garik Sukachev with his Neprikasaemye. And next to it, a fire-stunt show by the Moscow biker club “Nochnye Volki” took place. On the large JSA stage near the House of Soviets, the following performed: a large solo concert by fellow countrywoman of Kaliningrad Lada Dance, as well as popular performers – Dima Bilan, Stas Piekha, Nadezhda Babkina and Philipp Kirkorov. The culmination of the rich entertainment program was the performance of the German pop-rock band Fools Garden and the legendary band “Mashina Vremeni”. In the final, the 750th birthday of Kaliningrad-Königsberg ended with a large colorful fireworks.
JSA Company thanks the organizer of the event – “Interregional Press Center” for the invitation and joint work in this project. We express personal gratitude to Olga Dramaretskaya (Vershinina), the director of the center and producer of the celebration, and also special thanks to her assistant – Sergey Arnaut for positive cooperation in the working aspects of the technical part of this project.
