From November 14 to 20, 2024, JSA took part in several productions for the VOICES – Performing Arts Festival. This unique cultural event is being held in the German capital for the second time since 2023. In its content, it is a platform that amplifies the voices of displaced artists who have been forced to leave their homelands and seek new ways to be heard. This year’s program focuses on recent waves of migration from the former Soviet Union. The festival’s performances take place at various venues throughout Berlin.
This year, JSA installed stage structures, spectator stands and suspended trusses for several performances as part of the VOICES festival at the invitation of Sergey Rylko, the festival’s chief production manager. JSA structures were installed:
– For the play “CREMULATOR” – based on the novel by Sasha Filipenko. Director: Maxim Didenko. Starring: Maxim Sukhanov, Svetlana Mamresheva, Yan Ge, Igor Titov.
See more information about this play here – CREMULATOR by Maxim Didenko, after Sasha Filipenko’s novel.
The production took place in the former building of St. Elizabeth’s Church (Kultur Büro St. Elisabeth Kirche). For this performance, JSA assembled the spectator stands and made a rigging structure from aluminum trusses on nine chain hoists to install sound, lighting, projection equipment, and special effects.
– For the poetic performance “TO FORGET,” a story about the life and death of famous director Sergei Parajanov. Author of the performance: Ilya Moshchitsky.
More information about this performance can be found here – TO FORGET by Ilya Moshchitsky.
The production took place in a landmark location in Berlin, in the Delphi Theatre (Theater im Delphi) building. The JSA team installed a custom-designed stage structure in the hall with truss lines for hanging equipment, as well as a spectator stand.
Unfortunately, the third JSA staging for Dmitry Krymov’s play “Notes of the Mad,” which recently premiered in Riga with Chulpan Khamatova and Maksim Sukhanov in the lead roles, did not take place. The festival organizers were forced to cancel this performance for unknown reasons.
“This was the first project in the history of the JSA company made in Berlin and, as I see, we are already planning the next productions here. I am pleased to talk about this, since, based on the current situation in the world and the involuntarily chosen business strategy, the company is gradually mastering the European staging market, finding its own ways of promotion. It is also worthy of note that the first installation of structures in Germany took place within the framework of such an interesting event as the “VOICES” festival. In a sense, this was our “voice” in the cultural environment of people who were forced to leave their countries because of the war…” – this is how Alexander Strizhak, founder and managing director of the JSA company, commented on this Berlin mini-tour.
