“In the ever-evolving landscape of event staging, adopting innovative solutions is not just a preference, but a requisite for creating captivating experiences. A remarkable epitome of this ethos was witnessed in a concert staged in Riga, orchestrated by JSA Stage Company, a name synonymous with pioneering approaches in event production. This occasion was emblematic, not just for the memorable performances it hosted but for the engineering ingenuity that underpinned its staging structure, marking a momentous chapter in JSA Europe’s long-standing alliance with Layher, dating back to 1997.
The longstanding camaraderie between JSA Europe and Layher is built on a shared vision of transcending conventional boundaries to offer elevated experiences. The ethos of innovation is ingrained in JSA Europe’s operational blueprint, a testimony to which is their proactive adoption of Layher’s novel offerings. “We have been harnessing Layher system products since 1997. The endeavor to promptly integrate new products from Layher’s portfolio into our construction projects is a conscious one. This proactive stance not only keeps us a step ahead but significantly broadens our capabilities while enhancing the engineering solutions we extend to our clients,” remarked Alexander Strizhak, the CEO of JSA Europe.
The centerpiece of this collaborative saga was the Layher TwixBeam, a multifaceted marvel typically revered in construction and shoring scenarios. However, the narrative of this concert unveiled a new facet of TwixBeam, underlining its versatility as a worthy companion in crafting mesmerizing event spaces.
JSA Europe’s production blueprint for the concert was a meticulous blend of aesthetics and structural integrity. The foundational framework comprised Layher Allround, Layher Event Decks, and the Prolyte ST Roof System, poised to uphold the spectacle of lights, sound, and visuals. Yet, amidst this technical orchestra, the role of Layher TwixBeam emerged as a game-changer, replacing the customary aluminum trusses, a move driven by the quest for a more flexible and straightforward setup mechanism.
The narrative of TwixBeam’s application unfolded as follows:
- The structural blueprint embraced 12 TwixBeams, each 3.60m long, along the back line and sides of the structure under the roof, forging a robust base and a pre-rigging system.
- To accommodate the heavy sound system, an extension reach of 3.5 meters was necessitated. The solution emerged in the form of two TwixBeams, each 6.60m long, one stationed on each side, creating a reliable boom reach.
- Additionally, the roof system’s supporting pillars were nestled on 2.60m long TwixBeams, a move that not only ensured a level platform but significantly simplified the positioning choreography.
The choice of TwixBeam was not arbitrary but a well-pondered decision underscored by its ability to shoulder hefty loads while offering a plethora of attachment points, a stark contrast to the rigidness of steel beams. Moreover, the lightweight nature and varied length options of TwixBeam presented it as a more pragmatic choice over traditional aluminum trusses.
The underpinnings of this choice were eloquently articulated by Alexander Strizhak, “The adoption of TwixBeam for pre-rigging, to suspend lighting, sound equipment, and LED screens, emerged from the challenges posed by aluminum trusses and steel beams. While the former was cumbersome both in transportation and in the structural setup, the latter, albeit sturdy, was bereft of attachment flexibility and was significantly heavier. TwixBeam, with its lightweight demeanor and multiple attachment avenues, seamlessly aligned with the technical and logistical demands of modern shows, where multi-level suspensions are a common sight.”
The narrative of TwixBeam at the Riga concert is not just a tale of an innovative product finding its footing in a new domain. It’s a reflection of JSA Europe and Layher’s shared journey in nurturing innovation, a journey that not only augments their operational prowess but significantly enriches the event staging ecosystem.
As the echoes of the concert reverberate, the tale of TwixBeam stands as a compelling testament to the collaborative spirit of JSA Europe and Layher, a narrative that doesn’t just recount a successful event but unveils the promising horizon of innovative staging solutions, beckoning a future where engineering excellence and creative visions converge seamlessly on the grand stage of events.

JSA Europe thanks Oleg Abramov for his interest in our experience of using a new product from the Layher plant. We also specially thank the Layher Baltic company for long-term, successful cooperation and for the introductory training on Layher TwixBeam, which took place earlier this year in Vilnius. Following this, the use of Layher TwixBeam aluminum load bearing beams in the 2023 project season has become a signature feature of JSA’s stage designs.
