The second tribute concert, called “KINOproby” (“Film tests” in Russian) – A Dedication to Viktor Tsoi, was held on November 19, 2000, at the Ice Palace in St. Petersburg. JSA organized this unique event for fans of the legendary KINO group. The first show took place in Moscow on November 17, 2001, at the Olympic Stadium. As the technical contractor, JSA installed the stage, safety barriers, and other supporting structures for this concert.
The main organizer of this unique musical project at that time in Russia was the REAL RECORDS company, led by producer Alena Mikhailova, with the support of the NASHE RADIO radio station. The concert in Moscow was part of a large presentation of two CDs titled “KINOproby. Tribute Viktor Tsoi”. This was a double tribute album dedicated to Viktor Tsoi, released on Real Records. The initiators of releasing collections recorded by famous rock artists were Igor Gudkov (Panker) and Mikhail Kozyrev (the producer of the Nashe Radio radio station at that time). Maryana Tsoi, the ex-wife of Viktor Tsoi, supported the idea of releasing an album and holding concerts.
Initially, the organizers planned to hold only one premiere concert in Moscow, but at the suggestion of Alexander Strizhak and after successful negotiations with Igor Gudkov, it was decided to hold a second concert in St. Petersburg, the homeland of the KINO group and Viktor Tsoi, where the event was promoted by JSA. This project was successfully implemented thanks to the JSA branch in the city on the Neva – JSA SPb and with the support of Mikhail Shurygin’s company – NCA. In this way, rock fans from St. Petersburg got the opportunity to see a new wave of the revival of interest in the work of Viktor Tsoi, who tragically died 10 years before this event.
The concert was attended by eminent members of the rock scene and young novice musicians who have already become popular with the new generation. Thus, this event was a kind of relay race and gave an additional wave to the songs of Viktor Tsoi.
On the stage in the St. Petersburg Ice Palace were:
Zemfira, Vyacheslav Butusov, Mumiy Troll, Zdob Si Zdub, Korol i Shut, Kukryniksy, Multfilmy, Tequilajazzz, Rikoshet, Naiv, Piknik, Leningrad, Dva Samoleta. The host of the concert was the frontman of the group “Auktyon” – Oleg Garkusha. Also, Alexey Rybin, who, together with Viktor Tsoi, was at the origins of the creation of the KINO group, exclusively took part in this concert.
“Concert ”KINOproby. A dedication to Viktor Tsoi” – the first large-scale tribute concert in Russia (dedicated to a no less large-scale tribute project: the double tribute album “KINOproby”) – will take place on November 17 at Olimpic Stadium in Moscow and will be repeated in St. Petersburg on November 19 at the Ice Palace. The tribute project involves many famous Russian rock musicians. Many of them have already achieved star status. In this material, prepared with the help of NASHE RADIO employees and used with the kind permission of Real Records, the project participants themselves talk about who Viktor Tsoi was, remains, and will be for them, the leader of the KINO group, whom the national love settled in heaven much earlier than his tragic death…”
